The final week of the regular season contained a number of games that had big playoff implications, perhaps none bigger than Lob City vs Good U. With both teams coming into this week with a 7-1 record, the winner of this game automatically got a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Getting a bye in the playoffs can make a huge difference in the entire outlook of the playoffs. Not only does a bye give that team a week of rest, but it also changes who they would play in the Quarterfinals and even possibly the Semifinals.
This game resulted in Lob City winning 74-73 over Good U and earning the bye. This game was a battle between two of the top teams in the league. Lob City went into halftime with an 11-point lead, but ended up letting some of that slip away. They were still able to walk away with the win after allowing Good U to make it too close for comfort.
Lob City was supported by a well-rounded scoring effort. Nuri Mahmoud and Greg Holt led the way with 14 points each. Michael Palumbo and Victor Kashouh Jr. were also big contributors with 13 and 12 points respectively.
Nuri Mahmoud said that one of their focal points was to “put a lot of pressure on the other team.”
They utilized that strategy on offense and defense as they tried to play an up-tempo style of basketball, while also hustling back on defense, and giving full effort to put together defensive stops.
Both of these teams will have chances to make a strong playoff push. Lob City will be off for one game before seeing some playoff action, while Good U will get right to it with their first playoff game as the three-seed against the Basket Hounds.
