In week three of Legacy Leagues action, The Firm overcame a 14 point deficit to best The Rookies, 51-40.
In the first half the Rookies looked solid with a couple of hits from beyond the arc and some takeaways on the defensive end. They were controlling the tempo and therefore controlling each possession. However, as their scoring efficiency declined The Firm managed to claw back into it.
At the half The Firm were down 10, and needed to spark their defense and hit some shots coming out of the break. That’s when Chris Martinez took this game over.
A versatile forward, Martinez is a matchup nightmare for most teams. If you press up to take away the three ball, he will blow by you with his first step off the dribble; and if you lay off to protect the inside, he’s going to drill the jumper in your face. He came out on fire in the second half, and everything started clicking for the Firm.
On the other hand, the wheels came off for The Rookies. All of a sudden they couldn’t hit their shots and couldn’t make any stops on the defensive end. Martinez ended up finishing the night with 19 points along with 13 rebounds helping to propel the Firm to a week three win.
The Firm will play Stranger Danger next week in what shouldn’t be a close matchup.
“I’m missing a date with my girlfriend for you,” The Firm’s Chris Martinez said when asked about his Valentine’s day matchup next week. “You know it’s going to be bad.”
