John Coutu is continuing to show why he is one of the best players in the Legacy Leagues. During the Winter he was a captain for the All-Star Game and he took home All-Star Game MVP honors. On Tuesday night Coutu once again shined on the big stage as he helped the West All-Stars to 114-106 win over the East All-Stars.
Coutu won All-Star game MVP last season and then proceeded to say that the Duje’s Boys would be good this Summer, he was right. Last week Coutu led his team to the championship as the nine-seed, winning Finals MVP in the process.
The East-All Stars got out to a lead in the first half thanks to having regular season MVP Jose Mercado as well as the Duje’s Boys Zach Tartaglia. However, the East All-Stars only had four players and they went cold in the third quarter which gave the West All-Stars and opportunity to build a lead that they would not relinquish.
The West All-Stars outscored the East 32-12 in the third quarter. The second half was all about Coutu though who caught fire from three as he finished the game shooting 7-of-14 from three. Coutu hit multiple deep threes that made his Duje’s Boys teammates who were in the stands excited for their captain.
“Just hitting a lot of threes,” Coutu said. “I’ve been streaky this year. Lucky to have a good night.”
Coutu did not just hit threes this game, but he was also able to get rebounds and assists to finish the game with a triple-double. Coutu ended the game with 34 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. Coutu is showing that he is the best rebounding guard in the league because he was also able to grab 19 rebounds in last week’s Finals.
While this season is over the players are already working to improve their teams and find ways to take down the defending champion Duje’s Boys. Coutu and his team, however, will look to repeat next season.
“Next season everyone knows who we are now,” Coutu said. “So we just come back with the same team and look to have some more success.”
